Hey All,
Thanks to everyone who came out to our event yesterday, despite the holiday week!! We actually broke 150 last night, which is a new record for us!! It was great to see all the old and new faces alike. I wanted to re-address the issue of appropriate behavior. As you know, the most important thing to me is that the members feel comfortable and safe. By and large everyone seemed to have a good time yesterday, but unfortunately I did have a couple of reports from [different] girls about [different] guys making them feel uncomfortable, and possibly not wanting to come back because of it. Again, this is multiple girls and multiple guys, so this is a general problem. I won't mention any names (although I DO know them and I am always watching!). GUYS: Please be courteous to the girls. Don't say outrageously rude things to them. Don't put your hands all over them unless you're SURE they like it. Be friendly and flirt as much as you want, that's fine. Take them on dates later and be touchy feely then, that's also fine. The line is crossed when the girls start telling me they don't want to come back because of behavior within the Meetup. Save that for the clubs and the groups where the organizers don't care about their members. If transgressions occur multiple times, you will no longer be welcome at this Meetup. LADIES: Please feel comfortable to tell me if anyone has offended or mistreated you. Many girls have done so in the past, and I have removed several members as a result of it. If you guys don't tell me, the guys will never learn. Help us make the Meetup a better place for everyone. Lastly, I wanted to remind everyone to join the NYAPM facebook group: http://www.facebook.c... It is a great benefit to be dual-listed on meetup and facebook. In addition to all of the meetup.com features you are already familiar with, joining the facebook group will allow you to: 1. Be reminded of our events on facebook (which people generally login to and check much more frequently); 2. Automatically show your facebook friends where you are going, so you can all get together at our events; and 3. Network with other meetup members in the facebook framework. So please sign up when you have a chance! As a caveat, I am growing the Facebook group VERY slowly for various reasons: to make sure all the bugs are worked out; so it doesn't grow too fast; to balance membership; and to screen members who there have been complaints about. So don't be offended if you are not accepted to the group right away! For the last several months I have also been sending the link to my FB real estate group. Several people in the meetup had asked me for my views and advice on real estate. I wanted to point you to my facebook group, in which I explain why I believe NY real estate is currently very overvalued. It started as a private group for my close friends, where I disseminated information to those with less economics experience to protect them from getting fooled by unscrupulous real estate brokers. Now, I'd like to open it up to all of my meetup friends as well :) http://www.facebook.c... Thanks, and see you all soon! Best, Eric Yeh AO, New York Asian Professionals Meetup (NYAPM) |
